TCL to manufacture and sell Blackberry devices
BlackBerry Ltd has said that China’s TCL; the company behind the Alcatel brand would make and sell BlackBerry-branded mobile devices globally, the Canadian smartphone pioneer’s first licensing deal since its transition to a software company. Alcatel and blackberry combined efforts to make to design and manufacture the DTEK50 and DTEK60 devices. So it’s no surprising that TCL seal a major deal with Blackberry.
So what this means is that the next blackberry devices will be manufactured by TCL while Blackberry will provide the security software, apps and service suite. The company said this will enable it concentrate on making software and managing mobile devices. Apple Inc. and Samsung currently control the largest shares of the global mobile revenues.
The deal will see TCL which is the fourth largest mobile phones maker in North America the right to manufacture and sell Blackberry branded devices in all countries except India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia. These are Blackberry’s biggest markets.
