It’s been long overdue! After details of the new Microsoft’s new Surface, Pro with LTE Advanced leaked in September and numerous speculations. The software giant, Microsoft has now officially announced the new laptop, at the Future Decoded event in London, just as we anticipated.
The Laptop is scheduled to launch this December with prices starting as high as $1149. The Surface Pro LTE boasts of Qualcomm’s X16 mobile data modem, with 20 bands built-in to provide seamless global connectivity. The Surface Pro also supports LTE Cat.9 offering download speeds of up to 450Mbps. According to Microsoft, it is “the fastest LTE-enabled laptop in its class”, since other laptop competitors only have Cat.6 which offers speed of up to 300Mbps only.
The new laptop should start shipping to businesses in December, according to the company. There will also be an official launch for consumers early next year for the laptop. This will definitely be a blow to Apple, as none of Apple’s MacBook offers LTE.
The Microsoft Surface Pro with LTE Advance is the first laptop with LTE capability. Talk about being innovative and a trendsetter. I’m pretty sure other Laptop would soon follow suit. Will it be Google’s Pixelbook or Apple’s MacBook?
According to Microsoft, the Surface Pro gets 13.5 hours of battery life even with the LTE feature. I still think that’s not enough for heavy users and those who are always on the road. Nevertheless, it’s not clear how LTE will affect the Laptop’s battery life.
The Microsoft Surface Pro with Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, and 128GB of SSD goes for $1,149, while with $1,449 you will get 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, with the CPU remaining exactly the same. The Core i7 Surface Pro will not have options for LTE connectivity.
