OnePlus 5T Review
Just barely 5 months after releasing their flagship for the year, the OnePlus 5. OnePlus have topped it up a notch with a slightly upgraded variant called OnePlus 5T. The device is a OnePlus version of a “Plus” update, as the OnePlus 5T packs a bigger screen size and a more enhanced camera. Most notably, the new OnePlus 5T is bezel-less.
Being bezel-less as a smartphone comes with a lot of responsibilities. The fingerprint scanner was moved to the back to accommodate the bezel-less display. At the back, the OnePlus 5T looks more like the iPhone 7 Plus, with the way the camera and flash were strategically mounted.
The very classy and sleek device has an aluminium frame and back. According to the company’s site, it is only available in Midnight Black colour at the moment. It’s quite unclear if other colours will be released by the company. If you can remember, OnePlus 5 was available in Midnight Black and Slate Gray.
You all should know by now how obsessed I am with the bezel-less trend. OnePlus really went all out to achieve an 80% screen-to-body ratio on the OnePlus 5T. The front of the 6-inch device is literally all screen, with 1080 x 2160 pixels screen resolution. I don’t need to school you how the display on a bezel-less 6-inch smartphone will be like. And with 401 pixels per inch density, you might have never experienced anything like it.
You don’t have to worry about when it falls, the screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
HARDWARE and SOFTWARE
The device houses the Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, which is one of the best at the moment and Octa-core (4×2.45 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) processor. In terms of RAM and internal storage, OnePlus created two versions. If you are on a budget, you can go for the 64GB storage and 6GB RAM version.
But if you need more RAM size, you can go for the 128GB storage and 8GB RAM version. If you have the money, go for the 128GB version because there’s no MicroSD slot for upgrade. The device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with Oxygen OS 4.7 skin on top.
OnePlus 5T boasts of more improved dual rear cameras than on any smartphone with dual rear cameras. Its 20MP + 16MP shooter at the back is everything a photographer could ever ask for in a smartphone. It takes breathtaking and amazing portraits with in-house filters.
OnePlus 5T is powered by a 3300mAh Non-removable battery, with fast battery charging 5V 4A 20W (Dash Charge).
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
OnePlus 5T is available for pre-order for $499, that’s about N185,000 – N200,000 for the 6GB RAM version.
