OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8-Battle of the two most powerful Android Phones
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8: OnePlus released their flagship device yesterday, the OnePlus 5T. The new device looks like the Galaxy S8 at the front and iPhone 7 Plus at the back. The company went all out on the display, achieving an almost bezel-less display like the Samsung S8.
Do you have more than half of a thousand dollars, and thinking of buying one of these cool devices? Or you are using a Samsung Galaxy S8 and want to know if the new OnePlus 5T is worth the hype? Then stay with me as both devices go head to head in the battle for supremacy.
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8-DESIGN
I have to give it to the Galaxy S8 on this one, yes OnePlus 5T is obviously a beautiful smartphone. But the company’s philosophy of simplicity in the design hasn’t changed much from what we saw on the Oneplus 5. With the Oneplus 5T, there are absolutely no colour choices as the device is only available in Midnight Black.
The Galaxy S8 offers just that, as it is available in Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold. Although both devices have an aluminium frame and back, only the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a glass back. The Galaxy S8 is one of the sexiest smartphones, I’ve ever seen throughout the year, while the OnePlus 5T looks like a clone. Unlike the OnePlus 5T, the Galaxy S8 is IP68 certified, offering dust & water resistance. A smartphone you can’t go with to the pool, is that a smartphone?
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8-DISPLAY
Its officially the battle of the bezel-less, the OnePlus 5T tried it, got close but didn’t pass the finish line. The company achieved an 80.0% screen-to-body ratio with the device, but it is still not up to the 83.6% screen-to-body ratio on the Galaxy S8. Also, the screen resolution on the 5T is clocked at 1080x2160pixels, which is still not up to 1440×2960 pixels on the S8.
In terms of vivid display and getting amazing detail and sharpness of objects on the screen, I have to give it to the S8. The Galaxy S8 has one of the highest pixels per inch density on any smartphone at the moment. With an amazing 570 ppi density, compared to the 401 ppi density on the OnePlus 5T. If you are going to go bezel-less, increasing the ppi should be your utmost priority.
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8-CAMERA
So Y’all know I’m a huge fan of the trending dual rear cameras. I have no idea why Samsung hasn’t launched the feature in the “S” Series yet, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Galaxy S9. The Samsung Galaxy S8 sports a single 12MP at the back with phase detection autofocus, f/1.7, 26mm, OIS, LED flash, 1/2.5″ sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR and panorama.
While the OnePlus 5T sports an impressive Dual 20MP + 16MP rear cameras with aperture f/1.7, 27mm, EIS (gyro), phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash, 1/2.8″ sensor size, 1.12 µm for the 16MP lens & 1/2.8″ sensor size, 1.0 µm for the 20MP lens, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama.
For selfies, the 5T boasts a 16MP selfie camera with aperture f/2.0, 20mm, EIS (gyro), 1.0 µm pixel size, 1080p and Auto HDR. While S8 has just 8MP aperture f/1.7, autofocus, [email protected], dual video call and Auto HDR. If you are more into photography, then the OnePlus 5T should be your device of choice based on the specs above but the Samsung has proven to one of the best camera phones in the world right now. So which one will you go for?

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
Both devices house the same graphics processing unit and Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset. OnePlus 5T has a clock speed of 2.35 GHz same with the one on the S8.
Although if you are in Europe, you can get a Samsung Galaxy S8 with Exynos 8895 Octa chipset. The Galaxy S8 has just 4GB RAM, while the 5T has 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM versions. A close call? A gamer would be more comfortable with the OnePlus 5T. In terms of internal storage, the S8 has 64GB ROM with an option to expand up to 256GB using microSD. While the 5T has 64GB and 128GB versions, with no option to expand.
OnePlus 5T vs Samsung Galaxy S8-BATTERY
The battle of the stay woke, and OnePlus 5T flawlessly takes the trophy home. Its 3300mAh battery can last longer than the 3000mAh battery on the S8. Even the super Dash charge has remained the one to beat in the fasting charging innovation world.
The performance on both devices is quite similar, even though the OnePlus 5T has a bigger battery, more advanced camera and more RAM size. I personally will pick the Galaxy S8 because of its futuristic design and breathtaking display. The OnePlus 5T costs $529, while the Galaxy S8 costs $729. That is a huge $200 difference, but does it really worth it?
