Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3 Specs comparison

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3: Xiaomi released their new high-range smartphone from the Note series, the MI Note 3. Of course, there are Xiaomi fans who are already enjoying the MI Note 2 and thinking if the upgrade is really worth it. Also, there are those who want to join in on the MI Note party but don’t know which one to buy.

Both devices don’t look identical, so you know there should be lots of upgrades to the newer version. You have to stick around, as I will be listing the difference, so you can easily make that choice.

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3-Performance

Well, a lot could happen in a year, right? Like an upgrade! But this isn’t the case with these two devices. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 MSM8996 Pro chipset on the Note 2 was downgraded. As the Note 3 houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. But the chipset on the Note 2 isn’t as fast as the one on the Note 3. The Note 2 chipset runs on Quad-core 2×2.35 GHz Kryo, while the one on the Note 3 runs on Octa-core 4×2.2 GHz Kryo 260.

Also, the Adreno 512 on the Note 3 is less powerful than Adreno 530 on the Note 2. The overall performance on the Note 3 was disappointingly not cool, compared to its predecessor. So if you are looking for an improved performance, you might want to hold on a bit. Although, a 2GB bump of RAM on the Note 3, as it packs 6GB RAM compared to the 4GB RAM on the Note 2 might compensate you perhaps. But I mean, compared with the Snapdragon 821, the Snapdragon 660 still has a tremendous gap to catch up.

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3-Design:

In terms of a more classy look, the Note 3 takes it home for me. You should know by now how obsessed I am with the trending dual rear cameras. Not only is the Note 3 smaller in size with just 5.5″, compared to the 5.7″ of the Note 2. It weighs less too, weighing just 163g compared to 166g of its predecessor.

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3-Display and OS:

They both have the same screen resolution, but the pixel per inch on the Note 3 tends to make the screen sharper. It has 401ppi density, offering amazing visuals compared to 386ppi density on its predecessor. Also, the Note 2 sports an AMOLED display, while the Note 3 sports an IPS LCD display. Of course, the newer version runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with the MIUI 9, while the Note 2 runs on 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8.

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3-Camera:

So I’m guessing this is where the extra $70 goes to. The single rear 22.5MP camera on the Note 2, was divided into dual rear 12MP + 12MP on the Note 3. Xiaomi claims the new dual camera is far better than the previous single one. As the two cameras will work together to deliver amazing photographs. Also for selfie lovers, Xiaomi gave them a ‘double the joy’ treatment, from 8MP on Note 2 to 16MP on Note 3.

Xiaomi MI Note 2 vs MI Note 3Battery and Other Features:

The battery was drastically reduced to 3500mAh on Note 3, from 4070mAh on Note 2. Please don’t ask e why i have no idea what Xiaomi was thinking. Also, there’s no 3.5mm jack on the Note 3, so if you want the new Note, you have to use a wireless earphone. The Bluetooth was also upgraded to 5.0 on the Note 3, from 4.2 on its predecessor.

Conclusion:

With a $70 savings, more powerful battery and an ultra-fast performance, I have to go with the Xiaomi MI Note 2. I know there are a lot of new features on the newer Note, but I think Xiaomi should have done better in upgrading the device. You are supposed to upgrade everything on the device, or at least leave some features where it was. Not downgrade it!

I don’t know, I might be wrong. But what do you think?
