Protruly Darling: World’s first VR mobile phone

Protruly Darling

The Protruly Darling is a weird smartphone with a built-in 360-degree “VR” camera. Created by Protruly, a Shenzhen-based company you’ve never heard of before. But with a smartphone like this, their name might be known globally soon enough. The device was on showcase at the 2018 Mobile World Congress, with lots of people being astonished at its design.

The champagne gold metal body is apparently made of 3.08 grams “pure gold”, making it a luxurious smartphone. There are also visible four diamonds fixed to the “full-grain leather from Italy at the top massive “bezel”. At the rear, it sports two cameras, there’s a big one at the top and a smaller one underneath, with a dual-LED flash beside the small camera.

Protruly Darling The bizarre smartphone sports a 5.5-inch Full HD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. For photography, the phone packs VR ready dual 13MP + 13MP front and back fisheye lenses connected to the phone’s top bezel. Then there’s a regular 13MP camera on the back and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. The Protruly Darling also comes with a physical home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor as well.

Internally, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and powered by a 2.5GHz deca-core processor of Helio X20 MT6797 chipset. In terms of storage, there’s 4GB of RAM for multitasking and fast app launching. For storage, the Protruly Darling packs 64GB of internal storage. Giving life to the Protruly Darling is a massive 3,560 mAh battery. While in terms of connectivity, it supports dual sim, 4G LTE, headphone jack and USB-C.

The highlight of the smartphone is still its 360-degree camera. To use the camera, just toggle the VR camera mode within the default camera app. You can share videos easily to platforms like Facebook and YouTube, so it’s obviously easier than connecting to a 360-camera attachment separate camera app.

In conclusion, the smartphone is pretty weird and looks heavy as well, i don’t think other big guns like Apple or Samsung would ever bother making such. The Protruly Darling is also very pricey at $800 (with the jewels) and $500 (for the one with the thermal IR sensor).
