ARM Cortex-A76 and Mali-G76 unveiled with improved performance

The ARM Cortex-A76 has been unveiled by ARM, the company released the new cores yesterday. So many flagship devices are released every year and these devices, of course, come with a new chipset which requires new cores. That’s where the Cortex-A76 comes in, a new processor for the modern chipset. Oh, a new graphics processing unit is on-board as well, the Mali-G76, ready for 8K video processing.

Compared to its predecessor, the Cortex-A75 which has a 10 nm process technology and clocks at 2.8 GHz, the all-new A76 was built with a 7 nm process technology and will clock up to 3.0 GHz, this will offer 35% higher performance and 40% better power efficiency when compared to the A75. ARM also brought on the trending new AI which is literally everywhere now in the mobile world.

ARM Cortex-A76 and Mali-G76

The ARM Cortex-A76 has a CPU 4x improvement speed in terms of machine learning, with an increased memory bandwidth as well. The feature is tagged “laptop-class” cores, according to ARM. The older A75 will still be used in high-end devices, while the A76 might debut on a flagship before the end of 2018. Let’s talk about the graphics processor for a minute, the Mali-G76 is the latest graphics processor from ARM, with its 7nm process technology, it offers a 50% boost in performance compared to the G72. There’s also an improvement in machine learning as stated above with a 30% better energy efficiency.

Apart from the graphics processor, there’s a new video processor on the ARM Cortex-A76, which is the Mali-V76 video processor. The V76 will easily shoot 8K video at 30 fps, that’s whenever mobile cameras and storage space are ready to handle that. With the 25% enhancement in video quality which was promised by ARM, the processor will be able to shoot 8K video at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps.
