The TECNO Spark 2 vs Spark K7 battle of the Sparks is about to begin. These budget-friendly smartphones have a lot in common, the Spark K7 really brought the Spark series to the limelight a couple of months ago. Now the Spark 2 is here to continue from where the K7 stopped.
The Spark 2 was launched days ago with some of the trendy features we’ve seen in the past year. But is it worth the upgrade? Does the camera on the Spark 2 take better photographs than the one on the K7? Are there any major differences? Well, all your questions will be answered in a bit.

Design-wise there’s been some upgrades, the Spark K7 came with a Plastic back which can be removed to insert SIMs. While the Spark 2 comes with SIM tray by the side and sports an irremovable plastic body. However, they both sport the same sleek antenna lines and a rear fingerprint scanner.
The camera and LED flash on the Spark 2 is in a vertical position which is more modern. While on the Spark K7, the camera and LED flash are horizontal at the top left corner as well. The Spark K7 is more bulky measuring 7.9mm in thickness while the Spark 2 measures just 7.6mm in thickness.

If you’re loving the current full view trend on the latest Android smartphones, then the Spark 2 will definitely delight you. It dishes out an 18:9 aspect ratio with its massive 6-inch HD+ screen. This screen has 1440 x 720 pixels in resolution and 268 pixels per inch density.
While the Spark K7 sports a smaller 5.5-inch HD screen with 720 x 1280 pixels in resolution and the same 267 pixels per inch density. The Spark K7 also comes with a lot of bezels and hardware buttons unlike the Spark 2 and dishes out the standard 16:9 aspect ratio and comes with on-screen buttons.
In terms of Brightness and Sunlight Legibility, the Spark 2 is brighter thanks to its 500nit brightness as against the Spark which has 400nit.

The Spark K7 is equipped with a 13MP rear camera with support for HDR, Autofocus and other features, including a LED flash right beside it. While the Spark 2 sports the same 13MP rear shooter, although TECNO stressed that the camera overall quality has been improved and now has TRI-LED flash to illuminate the darkest of an environment.
For selfies, the Spark K7 houses a 5MP selfie camera with a LED flash at the top bezel for all your selfies. TECNO topped it up a notch by adding more pixels with the Spark 2 selfie camera, it boasts of an 8MP selfie shooter with Face ID support and a Dual LED flash.
TECNO Spark 2 vs Spark K7 – HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
Under the hood, the Spark K7 is powered by the MediaTek MT6580 chip with a Quad-Core processor clocking at 1.3GHz, same with the Spark 2, it also houses the MediaTek MT6580WP chip with Quad-Core processor which clocks at the same speed of 1.3GHz.
They both have the same 1GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, although the Spark 2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition, this will make it run much smoother than the Spark K7 that’s powered by 7.0 Nougat with its 1GB of RAM. Both storage spaces are pegged at 16GB with an option to expand it further.
From a software point of things, the Spark 2 should receive regular updates because it’s running on the Android Go Edition which is a highly optimized version of Android 8.0 Oreo. Many of the frequently used apps like Facebook, YouTube, Messenger, Map have been optimized to take less space, that is why you now have apps like YouTubeGo, Gmail-Go, GoogleGo and even AssistantGo.

The Spark K7 gets its power from the 3000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery underneath. While the Spark 2 houses a powerful 3500mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. This means the Spark 2 gets an upgrade of 500mAh which perform better than the K7 especially now that the Spark 2 is more optimized.
TECNO Spark 2 vs Spark K7 – Price Comparison
The TECNO Spark K7 retails for about N32,000 while the Spark 2 retails between N36,200 to N37,000. The extra N4000+ is totally worth it, if you want to get more from the Spark series.
The Spark 2 is definitely worth the upgrade, because of the Go Edition it runs on, there’s a bigger battery capacity as well as a bezel-less display. But it’s up to you, do you think it’s worth the upgrade?
