Xiaomi Redmi 6A Full Specs Review

Xiaomi Redmi 6A was launched today alongside the Redmi 6 mid-range smartphone. The Redmi 6A is the cheaper variant of the mid-range smartphone we reviewed earlier. Just like the Redmi 5A, the 6A targets those on a budget with trendy features.

Speaking of trendy features, the Redmi 6A comes with the Face ID feature. This lets you unlock the device by just raising the phone up to your face, even in low light environments. It’s equipped with the full view display, there’s also 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space available as well.

XIAOMI REDMI 6A DESIGN

Just like the Redmi 6 we reviewed earlier, the 6A was built with aluminium alloy just like its predecessor. The dual antenna lines is also very visible, making this look exactly like the Redmi 6. However, Xiaomi ditched the fingerprint scanner, users will have to depend on the Face ID.

One of the cameras at the top left corner has been removed as well. You only get a single rear camera for all your photographs. Nonetheless, it measures the same 8.3 mm in thickness just like Redmi 6 and weighs 145g overall. It’ll be available in Grey, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colours.

XIAOMI REDMI 6A DISPLAY

Definitely an upgrade from the Redmi 5A, the Redmi 6A is built around a bezel-less screen which should give users the full view experience. Even though the bezels are still pretty much visible, we can’t help but notice it dishes out an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The same 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen we saw on the Redmi 6 is still available here. The screen boasts of 720 x 1440 pixels in resolution and 295 pixels per inch density, for clear and sharp visuals. The screen also got up to 72.7% screen to body ratio.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

The new MediaTek Helio A22 chip is doing all the work underneath. The chipset was built on the same 12nm process technology just like Helio P22. However, the Quad-core processor on this chip clocks at a fast speed of 2.0GHz and should handle heavy tasks more than most Quad-core processors.

With the device, you still get 2GB of RAM for all your light multitasking. The storage department is still pegged at 16GB, which is always ready to store your files. However, you can always expand up to 256GB whenever you need more space. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10.

XIAOMI REDMI 6A CAMERA

For photography, there’s a single 13MP shooter at the rear with f/2.2 aperture. The camera is also AI-powered and has features like phase detection autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama. For selfies and Face ID, there’s an AI-powered 5MP selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000mAh battery with fast charging technology.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A is available on shopping stores, starting from $99 to $119, that’s about (N35,000 – N45,000).
