BlackBerry Evolve X is the advanced variant of the Blackberry Evolve, it looks quite identical to the device we reviewed earlier. However, there are a few changes, both Internal and external.
First of all, the Evolve X houses a better chipset, the Snapdragon 660, this should be much faster while dealing with demanding apps. There’s also 6GB of RAM space available as well. Lets meet the device.
BlackBerry Evolve X Key Specs and Features
・5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1080 x 2160 pixels
・Android 8.1 Oreo with 6GB RAM
・Octa-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm SDM660 Snapdragon 660
・64GB built-in storage
・12MP + 13MP rear camera and 16MP front camera
・4000mAh non-removable Li-Ion Battery
Design And Display
The two device from the new Evolve series looks quite identical to each other. However, the Evolve X sports an aluminium frame from the 7000 series. It has dual antenna lines which differentiate the body from the ends.
The dual rear cameras at the top middle are now shaped beautifully well with the LED flash sitting beside it. The fingerprint scanner is now shaped in circle as well, making it look different to the cheaper variant.
BlackBerry didn’t bother changing a thing in terms of display here, it has an 18:9 aspect ratio screen. The Evolve series means BlackBerry has finally evolved and dumped its physical keyboard on Android.
It has a tall 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, this boasts of 1080 x 2160 pixels in resolution and 403 pixels per inch density. There’s a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection as well.
Hardware and Software
Behind the screen, the Snapdragon 660 chip from Qualcomm does the number crunching. It was built on a 14nm FinFET process technology and ships with an octa-core processor, it also clocks at 2.2GHz tops. While the Adreno 512 graphics card handles graphics.
You get a bigger 6GB of RAM space available here for multitasking. Although the storage space is still pegged at the standard 64GB, you can expand up to 512GB using a memory card. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box as well.
Camera And Connectivity
It’s equipped with dual 12MP + 13MP shooters at the rear, however, this does better than the cameras on the Evolve. The 12MP shooter has f/1.8 aperture, 1/2.8″ sensor and 1.29µm pixel size, while the 13MP lens is the depth sensor. The 16MP selfie camera has a LED flash as well.
The Evolve X supports 4G LTE connectivity and accommodates dual Nano SIM. It has support for Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm jack, USB TypeC, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot and A-GPS, GLONASS.
Battery And Availability
The BlackBerry Evolve X is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 4000mAh battery with fast and wireless charging technology. BlackBerry Evolve X will be available on shopping stores, starting from $510 to $549, that’s about (N180,000 – N190,000).
