Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Vs Elephone A5 Specs and Price Comparisons: Which one To Buy?

Both devices here are in the mid-range segment with somewhat the same price, or rather, in the same price bracket. Elephone A5 is an upgrade to its predecessor – Elephone A4 which was released about 6 months ago while Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is a toned down version of Xiaomi flagship device – Xiaomi Mi 8 with fewer features and performance and of course, less price. Let’s take a look at these two devices and find out which one will be worth the buy.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, much like Xiaomi Mi 8 has a slightly bigger 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a notch up top to house the necessities. Elephone on the other hand also has a similar but slightly smaller 6.18-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 2246 x 1080 Pixels, 19:9 aspect and obviously a notch at the usual spot housing the camera.

Both the front and back of both devices are covered with glass with aluminium frame all around on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Metal frame on the Elephone A5. Elephone A5 weighs 200g, measures 8.1mm in thickness and has three colours – Black, Blue, Purple and Gradient. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, on the other hand, weighs 169g, measures 7.5mm in thickness and comes in colours Midnight Black, Aurora Blue and China’s Only Twilight Gold.

Both devices also feature a Hybrid Dual SIM meaning you’ll have to make use of your SIM 2 Slot for MicroSD if you intend to use one.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Vs Elephone A5 – Hardware & Software

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a Snapdragon 660 SoC with octa-core processors clocking speeds of up to 2.2GHz while Elephone A5 has a Mediatek Helio P60 Chipset with octa-core processors as well but has a max clock speed of 2.0GHz.

Both devices here have the same RAM and Storage option of either 4GB or 6GB Of RAM paired with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage respectively. Of course, you can expand the storage further on both devices using the Second slot which also doubles as a MicroSD card slot (Hybrid Dual SIM).

Both devices also have fingerprint sensors for biometric authentication/verifications; on the Elephone A5 it is weirdly located at the side of the device while on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite it is in its usual spot; at the back of the device.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite ships with a not so old Android 8.1 Oreo with Xiaomi’s MIUI Skin on top, while Elephone A5 has the latest Android 9.0 Pie with their own Skin slapped on top.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a dual rear camera which comprises of a 12MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a secondary camera of 5MP with f/2.0 aperture. There is also an LED flash for low light photography.

The rear camera is capable of recording 4k videos at 30fps and higher fps at a much lower resolution. Turning over to the front is a single 24MP front facing camera which can only record 1080p videos at 30 fps. Elephone A5 features 5 cameras in total – three at the back and 2 up front. The rear cameras are made up of 12MP + 5MP + 0.3MP with dual-LED flash while the front-facing camera features dual 20MP + 2MP cameras.

Elephone A5, thanks to its 200g weight was able to pack a massive 4,000mAh battery while Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a smaller 3,350mAh battery. Both devices are equipped with fast charging so getting the battery back up shouldn’t be a problem. Both devices are 4G LTE ready with WiFi, WiFi direct and WiFi hotspot. Mi 8 Lite has a Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C Port while Elephone A5 has Bluetooth 4.2 and a Micro USB port. Nevertheless, Both still come equipped with USB On The Go.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Vs Elephone A5 – Price

The elephone A5 costs $199 while Mi 8 Lite goes for $269. There is no denying that the Elephone A5 offers more at a competitive price point. If you’re looking for a taste of a flagship device at a budget then Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite might be a  better choice but if you care about overall value for money then, the Elephone should be your choice.
