Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Vs Mi 8 Pro – Design & Display
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro sports a pretty standard look for a 2018 flagship and nothing out of the ordinary in terms of design. It has a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2248 pixels screen resolution (402ppi) and a 19:9 aspect ratio with a notch. On top of all that is a Corning Gorilla Glass for screen protection. The back is also covered with glass while there is an aluminium frame (7000 series) all around. The device weighs 177 grams, measures at 7.6mm thick and comes in colours Black (transparent back), Meteorite black and Twilight Gold.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 on the other hands changed things a little bit by using a slider which houses the front-facing cameras to achieve a full-screen display. The 6.39-inch super AMOLED display covers the front of the device with no notch an almost no chin. Screen resolution stands at 1080 x 2340 pixels with a 403ppi and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The front here is also covered with Corning Gorilla Glass but with a ceramic back. All around the device is also covered with aluminium (7000 series). It weighs 218 grams and measures 8.5mm thick. Colours Available for this device includes Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and a special Forbidden City Blue for the 10GB RAM version.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Vs Mi 8 Pro – Hardware & Software
Both devices are pretty similar in the Hardware and Software department with both rocking the top of the line Snapdragon 845 chipset with octa-core processor clocking speeds of up to 2.8GHz alongside Adreno 630 GPU. The 6GB/8GB of RAM on the Mi Mix 3 is paired with a 128GB of internal storage while the 8GB/10GB of RAM configuration is paired with 256GB of internal storage. Mi 8 Pro’s 6GB/8GB of RAM comes with only one storage option of 128GB. Both devices have no MicroSD card slot so you’ll have to make do with the internal storage.
On the Mi Mix 3 is the latest Android 9.0 Pie while the Mi 8 Pro has Android 8.1Oreo. However, MIUI 10 skin is present on top of both devices so there won’t be much different in terms of the User Interface.
Camera, Battery & Connectivity
The Slider on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 houses a dual 24MP + 2MP front facing cameras with another dual camera setup of 12MP + 12MP at the back of the device which has LED Flash and is capable of capturing 4k videos at 30/60fps. Mi 8 on the other hand also has a dual camera setup of 12MP + 12MP at back with dual-LED Flash. At the front, however, there is only a single front-facing selfie camera of 20MP located in the notch.
Mi Mix 3 boast of a 3,200mAh battery, 200mAh more than Mi 8 Pro’s 3,000mAh. Regardless of the difference in capacity, both devices still have support for quick charge 4.0+. Both devices also have 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0 and use the new USB Type-C with USB On The Go. The Fingerprint sensor on the Mi Mix 3 is located at the back of the device while on the Mi 8 Pro, it is underneath the display.
Price & Conclusion
The Mi Mix 3 costs $475 to $575 depending on the configurations and the Mi 8 Pro also costs about the same price. The specs, as well as the price for these two Xiaomi flagship devices, tell the same story – there isn’t that much difference between these two devices in terms of specifications so it all boils to the design mostly.
