HMD just unveiled three new smartphones which include the Nokia 4.2 at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2019 event, Four if you count the feature phones. The Nokia 4.2 which we will be dissecting here is a newcomer and doesn’t have a predecessor – No Nokia 4.1 or Nokia 4. This new Nokia 4.2 is a Mid-range device with a Snapdragon 439 on the inside with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage respectively. It has dual rear cameras, a 3,000mAh battery and runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box under the Android One Program. Let’s find out more.

Nokia 4.2 Design And Display
Merely looking at the device, it follows the other Nokia phone tradition. At the back is dual camera setup lined vertically with the LED flash and fingerprint sensor below it respectively with the Nokia name not far down. At the front is also the Nokia name written at the very visible chin. The display itself is a 5.71-inch IPS Panel with notch cut out at the top to house the front-facing camera.
The display has a 720p+ resolution, 295ppi and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Nokia 4.2 has glass on both the display and at the back despite being a budget device. Asides the usual volume buttons and Power, it has a dedicated Google assistant button which wakes the Google assistant upon tapping it. Overall the device weighs 161 grams and measures 8.4mm in thickness with Black and Pink Sand as its only available colour options.
Nokia 4.2 Camera Review
Nokia 4.2 is equipped with two cameras at the back and one at the front. The ones at the back is a combination of a main 13MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and PDAF alongside a secondary 2MP depth sensor camera for sensing the depth of field in portrait shots. It also has an LED flash and is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. The trendy night mode is also supported. At the notch up front is the single 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture which can also be used for Face Unlock.
Nokia 4.2 Hardware and Software
At the heart of this device is a Snapdragon 439 SoC which is a Chipset based on the 12nm FinFET process technology. It has an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz which is paired with an Adreno 505 GPU. For multitasking, there is either 2GB or 3GB of RAM depending on the configuration with 16GB and 32GB of Internal storage respectively. There is also a microSD card slot for storage expansion which can accommodate up to 400GB. As expected, Nokia 4.2 is also under the Android One Program which means it comes with Stock Android 9.0 Pie.
Battery & Network Connectivity
A 3,000mAh powers this device with no word yet on its fast charging capabilities. It has 4G LTE connectivity with VoLTE, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, GPS, Radio, a 3.5mm jack, a microUSB port with support for USB On The Go and depending on the market, NFC.

Nokia 4.2 has a starting price of $170/€150 for the base version with 2GB/16GB while the 3GB/32GB configuration will cost $199/€175.
