Qualcomm today launched a new chipset portfolio, the Snapdragon 712, built on the 10 nm process. It arrives as a decent upgrade to the well-known Snapdragon 710. This latest release offers faster octa-core processor, capable of adding performance boost — a feature that makes it very suitable for mobile gaming and other tasks.

While the Snapdragon 712 shares a number of similarities with the 710, its predecessor, there are also a couple of differences between them:

The primary difference between these 2 chipsets is that the eight Kryo 360 cores of the former CPU now work at 2.3 gigahertz (GHz) in comparison with 2.2GHz of the latter. Other differences, as illustrated above, include the Quick Charge 4+ feature of the 712 instead of the 710’s Quick Charge 4 and improved Bluetooth audio. This upgrade is made possible by the TrueWireless Stereo Plus as well as Broadcast Audio technologies of the new chipset.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 retains the Adreno 616 GPU, along with the Hexagon 685 DSP, and the majority of the other specs in the 710. The modem is still a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X15, which allows LTE Cat.15 downlink as well as Cat.13 uplink, with maximum speeds of 800Mbps and 150 Mbps, respectively. The camera functionality remains within the neighborhood of 20 megapixels for dual camera or 32 megapixels for a single one, with the same Spectra 250 ISP.
