The biggest difference and perhaps advantage Kodi has over Plex is probably its wide array of customisation options available. Kodi has tons and tons of customisation similar to Android and can be made to look anyhow you want in order to get a more personalised experience.

You can add skins, remove or add categories, organise movies based on their genre and so much more. There is also a space for add-ons which is one of the Reason users looking for a streaming based software go for Kodi. With these add ons, you can watch and also record live TV channels. However, there has been a debate on the illegality of the Feature as some people use to Access pirated content. Asides from that, add ons are a nice little addition to Kodi which Plex doesn’t have.

What You Need to Know about Plex

Plex, on the other hand, is also a media centre software like Kodi which is also free to download and use. It offers almost, if not all of the Kodi features, except for the customisation part. It doesn’t work on Linux like Kodi but it is available on Android, MacOS, Windows and iOS – even if you’re not jailbroken.

Where Plex shines is its ability to stream media contents to other devices which it does very well but there is a catch. Kodi can also do this but it isn’t an out of the box Feature and can be quite complicated. With Plex, this feature comes with it however, you’ll need to purchase the Plex Pass Monthly, Yearly or Lifetime subscription. Once you do that, you’ll be able to let’s say watch the movies you have on PC on your Android, MacBook or iOS device.

Also, the Plex Pass, when purchased, allows you to watch Live TV channels that are available in your region when connected to an HD antenna and digital tuner.

Kodi vs Plex – Which one is better?

Talking about Kodi vs Plex and which is better between the two then it boils down to preference. At its core, both software are practically the same – a media centre bringing all your Media content under one roof for easy access. However, it is the little things that different these two software which are preferential. For example, if you like customisation a lot then Kodi is the best for you as it has more customisation than Plex. Do you like streaming your PC content via another device? Go with Plex. Since both software are free, I’ll recommend you give both a shot and then decide which one to settle for.
