5G-enabled Nova 8 SE arrives with 64MP quad-camera and 66W fast charging

Following the success of the nova 7 SE was introduced by Huawei in April, the company has unveiled its successor-the nova 8 SE after a 6-month period.

The Nova 8 SE which weighs 178 grams shares similar design language as that of iPhone 12 and OPPO A93 with its squircle-shaped camera on the back. The latter hosts a 64MP primary camera, 8MP ultrawide unit and two 2MP modules for macro and depth information.

The nova 8 SE is built around a 6.53″ FHD+ OLED display that has a waterdrop notch for the 16MP selfie camera. It also has a fingerprint scanner underneath for biometric authentication and supports HDR10.

Under the hood, the nova 8 SE has a Dimensity 720 chipset, but there’s also a High Edition that has Dimensity 800U at the helm. Both variants come with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and run Android 10-based EMUI 10.1 out of the box.

Keeping the lights on is a 3,800 mAh battery which is smaller than the current industry standards, but it supports 66W charging, which promises to juice up the cell from flat to 60% in 15 minutes and 100% in another 20 minutes.

The rest of the highlights of the Huawei nova 8 SE include a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1, dual SIM support, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Both the Dimensity 720 and Dimensity 800U-powered models of the nova 8 SE support 5G networks, but the High Edition offers 5G connectivity on both SIMs, whereas the Standard Edition supports the next-gen network only on the primary SIM.

The Huawei nova 8 SE will go on sale in China from November 11. The Standard version is priced at CNY2,599 ($390) and the High spec version will set you back by CNY2,699 ($410).
