Taiwanese company MediaTek has announced another gaming-focused chipset. The Helio G80 SoC is a more affordable option for gamers compared to the company’s first gaming chipset; Helio G90 which was released last year.
The mid-range chipset is built on the 12nm manufacturing process tech. It packs an eight cores CPU, which consists of two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz. For graphics, it comes with Mali-G52 GPU and clocks at 950MHz.
Despite being a mid-range chipset, the Helio G80 features some of MediaTek high-end features like built-in VoW (voice on wakeup) and HyperEngine Game technology. The HyperEngine technology offers a smooth gaming experience and is also featured on the Helio G90. It has the ability to smart switch from LTE to WiFi during gameplay when it detects a slow internet connection from your ISP. The built-in Voice on Wakeup means voice assistance services will consume lesser power.
The Helio G80 is expected to power smartphones coming this February in India market. It can now reach the global market in subsequent months.
