OLLA is set to be the latest addition to the O-series of Opera/Opay products as well as services launched in Africa. Opera has been posting a tease on its new products — OLLA phones — on all its social media handles and via pop-up ads on its mobile app(s).
According to the information we gleaned from the posts and ads, the upcoming Opera smartphone line will be dubbed “OLLA”.
The Oslo, Norwegian-based company has been realizing notable strides in Africa with its bill payment app OPay, in addition to several other software products & services, such as ORide, OTrike, OCar, OBus, OList, OKash, OFood, and so on.
With the latest news making the rounds on the Internet, it now seems Opera has put plans in top gear to foray into the hardware industry with the release of its own line of mobile phones.
Let’s take a look at all we know so far about OLLA smartphones.
Varieties of OPay OLLA Phones
As of yet, no information is available on the specific number and series of OLLA phones Opera is planning to debut into the market. But it is almost certainly sure that two OLLA phones — or more — will be announced when the company finally launches its smartphone brand.
From the first render posted on social media by Opera, we could picture an OLLA smartphone that sports a pop-up selfie camera, dual rear camera setup, along with a full-screen with near-zero bezels.
An LED flash, which is most likely Quad-LED, is visible above the dual-camera system on the rear, and just below this, there’s a fingerprint scanner. At the front, the earpiece or speaker grill can be seen embedded neatly at the top rim of the frontal section of the handset, and it takes some time to spot this feature.
On the left-hand side are the SIM & memory card slot, while volume adjustment keys and power button are on the right. While no information was released concerning the phone’s weight or dimensions, the smartphone does look quite sleek and attractively polished.
As shown in the picture above, it will hit stores in Mint Green; you can expect it in other color options as well.
Another OLLA phone, which is expected to launch soon, is this handset that features a Punch-hole selfie camera as well as a triple rear camera system.
Judging by these capabilities, it is a high-end device that shares many premium features with some flagship smartphones of a number of major players on the market, like Samsung, LG, and so on.
The front-facing selfie cam lies embedded in a hole, which is at the top-left corner of the device screen. There are three cameras on the rear that are vertically aligned and paired with an LED flash. Right below this setup is a fingerprint scanner and “OLLA” emblazoned on the back cover.
As of now, we don’t know the details of the camera configurations and quality, in addition to the screen size, software & processor, storage configuration, battery size, and other specs.
OLLA’s Pricing and Availability
Also, details on pricing and availability of the Opera/OPay OLLA smartphones are still sketchy. But taking a cue from the pricing pattern and history of OPay/Opera’s products and services, the phone should be in the affordable pricing segment.
As for launch date and availability, the OLLA phones will be unveiled in the next 3 to 5 weeks.
