If you are a fan of Huawei’s smartphones and you donR 17;t seem to like the EMUI that ships with their devices. There is good news. Team OpenKirin has made it possible to run vanilla Android experience on some supported Huawei devices. OpenKirin is a team of developers who aim to make AOSP-based custom ROMs available for Huawei/Honor devices.
Project Treble provides supports for 3 Stock Android ROMs
Their AOSP project offers three stock Android ROMs. LineageOS, Resurrection Remix OS and CarbonOS which can be downloaded from their websites and ported onto your phone. Before now it is quite difficult to work with Kirin devices but thankfully, Project Treble has made everything so easy.
This means that any phone running on Android 8.0 and above will support Project Treble. Project Treble is a rework of the Android OS framework to make it easier, faster, and less costly for manufacturers to update devices to a new version of Android. There is no excuse from OEMs why a phone on Android 8.0 should not get updates to the next Android OS.
But before you rush to get any of these, there is a CAVEAT. Project Treble is only available on 17 devices. And all of them need to be running Huawei’s EMUI 8 software on top of Android. If your Huawei phone is running on Android 8.0 Oreo. It means it will support Project Treble which ensures that you get regular software updates easily.
If you really want to run Vanilla Android on your Huawei Phone, it is better you do so now because Huawei will be shutting down its bootloader unlock codes on July 22.
