Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi is back with the next generation of their vanilla series. The new Redmi 10 comes with major upgrades to its predecessor. For starters, it is the first smartphone in the vanilla series to feature a high refresh rate of 90Hz with modes of 60Hz and 45Hz available too.

The Redmi 10 is built around a 6.5″ LCD with 1080 pixels resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi phone is the first device to come with the new Helio G88 Chipset from MediaTek. The chip is a somewhat tweaked version of the G85 which enables it to feature a high refresh rate at 1080 pixels resolution. Running inside the Redmi 10 is the Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 out of the box.

In the camera department, the Redmi 10 sports a big 50MP main camera – which is the highest camera resolution in the vanilla series thus far. The 50MP main camera is married with an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP macro cam, and a 2MP depth sensor. Inside the punch-hole display of the Redmi 10 is an 8MP selfie camera that can also be used for face unlock. Another biometric authentication feature is the fingerprint reader located on the right-hand side of the phone.

Powering the Redmi 10 is a large 5,000 mAh battery capacity that supports an 18W wired fast charging and 9W reverse charging. Redmi is being generous here, as the phone comes with a 22.5W charger out of the box despite being a ‘budget’ model.

The base model of the Redmi 10 has a 4/64GB memory configuration and costs $180. The other two memory options – 4/128GB and 6/128GB cost $200 and $220 respectively. Be careful when choosing your preferred memory configuration as the Redmi 10 is without a MicroSD slot for additional storage. Availability for the Redmi 10 is set for August 20 with three body colour options – Carbon Gray, Pebble White, and Sea Blue. For now, there is no report of a Pro model for this phone or any other variations, so keep your fingers crossed.

According to multiple reports from China, the Redmi 10 will first arrive in Malaysia at MYR650 (which translates to around $155) for its base model. While the 6/128GB model goes for MYR750. The 4/128GB memory option will not be available in the country.
