TECNO Camon 11 Pro VS Phantom 8: Which one offers more Value for money?

In this comparison, the newly released Tecno Camon 11 Pro will be going against last year’s Tecno Phantom 8. Both devices are obviously from the same smartphone company with some similar specs like the 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage with a MicroSD card slot. Let’s take a look at which of this smartphones gives the best value for money in today’s world.

On the Tecno Camon, 11 Pro is a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display, 720 x 1520 Pixel screen resolution and a trendy 19:9 aspect ratio with a notch. Phantom 8, on the other hand, has a smaller 5.7-inch IPS LCD display, 1080 x 1920 screen resolution and an ‘older’ 16:9 aspect ratio.

Equally, the Camon 11 Pro’s body is made of a glossy diamond fire back. At the back of both devices are the usual: dual rear cameras and a fingerprint sensor at the usual spot. The location of the brand logo is different, the placement of the branding on the Camon could be said to be inspired by the Huawei Nova 3i.

Colours options available for the Phantom 8 are Galaxy Blue, Champagne Gold and Black while Camon 11 Pro has only one colour option; Nebula Black.

TECNO Camon 11 Pro VS Phantom 8 – Hardware & Software

MediaTek takes charge on both devices here with MediaTek’s Helio P25 Chipset on the Phantom 8 and Helio P22 on Camon 11 Pro. Both chipsets have octa-core processors but the Helio P25 clocks up to 2.6GHz while P22 clocks a maximum of 2.2GHz. For GPU, we have Mali 880 on Phantom 8 and PowerVR on Camon 11 Pro. Both devices have 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Camon 11 Pro has a dedicated MicroSD slot while phantom 8 features a hybrid SIM (Two SIM cards or One SIM and One MicroSD card).

On the phantom 8 is Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box while the Camon 11 Pro has a more recent Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Tecno’s HiOS Skin is still slapped on top the Android 7.0 and 8.1 on both devices but on the Camon 11 Pro you have the most recent HiOS 4.1.

Phantom 8 on the other hand currently has a starting price of about N110,000 for the only variant of 6GB/64GB. Obviously, Camon 11 Pro has the newer Design with the 19:9 aspect ratio(with a notch), a slightly better camera, Bigger battery capacity and a more recent operating system. However, phantom 8 has a better and premium build quality and a better chipset.

Conclusion

Value for money depends on your perspective, last year’s flagship or this year’s mid-ranger ? For me, I’ll go with the Camon 11 Pro, it comes with a new processor, same 6GB of RAM, dual rear camera and is cheaper.
