Chinese phone company Xiaomi held a launch event in Beijing China on August 10. During the event, the company unveiled the Pad 5 series which features the Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro. This is the first tablet from the company in three years as the predecessor Mi Pad 4 was released in 2018.
The tablet series features the Pad 5 Wi-Fi-only and the Pad 5 Pro that has both Wi-Fi and a 5G-enabled variant. Both tablets sport a large 11″ display that features 1600 x 2560 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and 500nits brightness. Their panels support TrueTone technology which is used for adapting the colours and brightness to ambient light.
Both the Xiaomi Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro (5G version) sports a 13MP single selfie camera. While the Wi-Fi-only version of the Pad 5 Pro sports a 13MP and 5MP dual selfie camera. At the back, the Pad 5 Pro sports a 50MP main sensor and a 5MP ultrawide sensor.
Running inside the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro is the Snapdragon 870 chipset while the Pad 5 runs on the Snapdragon 860 chip. The Pad 5 series supports a stylus pen and magnetic keyboard cover that will be available in three colours to match the tablet paint job. The pen weighs 12.2 grams and features two buttons on its sides. It has a 240Hz touch sampling rate and a battery that is capable of lasting up to 8 hours on a single charge.
The Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro packs an 8,600 mAh battery capacity and supports a 67W fast charging speed which is the fastest ever in a tablet device. For the vanilla Pad 5, there is a slightly bigger 8,720 mAh battery cell but it supports a downgraded 33W fast charging speed.
The Xiaomi Pad 5 is priced at CNY1,999/$310 for the base 6/128GB model and CNY2,299/$355 for the 6/256GB model. While the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro starts at CNY2,499/$385 for the 6/128GB base model, CNY2,799/$430 for the 6/256GB model and CNY3,499/$540 for the 8/256GB model with 5GB connectivity. The tablet series is available for pre-order in China while its availability for the international market is unknown at this point.
